The Prince Alfred College Preparatory School development consists of two buildings connected by linkway bridges surrounding a central oval-shaped atrium. Aluco completed the aluminium window, door and glazing package, including curved double-glazed units and large anodised aluminium shrouds integrated into the façade.

Aluco worked directly with the architect to design a showpiece 45m² unbroken floor-to-ceiling curved double-glazed window. The window comprised nine insulated glass unit panels, each manufactured to a different radius to follow the oval geometry of the building.

To achieve the required accuracy, the framing was first measured using a grid system on the concrete slab and transferred into CAD software to generate fabrication drawings to create the unequal curve. These CAD drawings were used to create templates which were then laser cut in 3mm aluminium and utilized as pan flashings, giving us both the curved framing radius' as well as the glass radius for fabrication.

The project also included a further 15 curved double-glazed panels, requiring detailed investigation and testing to satisfy thermal performance requirements while maintaining consistency across multiple glass types and configurations.

Construction was undertaken on a restricted site bordered by an active school and hotel, requiring carefully coordinated deliveries, crane lifts and installation sequencing. Despite the complicated build, the project was completed on programme through close coordination between all trades.
