Completed in 2023, designed by Swanbury Penglase and constructed by Hindmarsh Construction, the new facility sits alongside the Margaret Ames Centre—another Aluco project completed almost a decade earlier.
The Discovery Centre was designed to support modern learning through a diverse range of specialised spaces, including areas dedicated to media production, podcasting and open study environments.
A standout feature of the project is a custom-developed façade system—the first of its kind in South Australia—engineered using a hybrid door rail solution. This was first designed in CAD and then a 3D-printed template was created to ensure drainage would work before being fabricated.
Alspec Hunter Evo systems were used along the Western and Northern facades, which were tied into cladding and canopy details.
Large operable full-height stacking sliding doors were installed throughout classroom and collaboration spaces, allowing flexible learning environments that can adapt and expand as required.
A bespoke link bridge balustrade was designed to transition seamlessly from half-height to full-height, contributing to the modern and innovative design.
Aluco won the following award for our contribution on this project:
AGWA State Award for Commercial Window or Glass Project ($100,000–$750,000)
