Originally constructed in 1914 by Chateau Tanunda, the historic site underwent an extensive restoration following its acquisition by the family-owned Bickford’s Group, reopening in 2016 after two years of redevelopment.

Our scope of works comprised of all aluminium framing systems and glazing throughout the development, including the glass still tower which stands tall over the surrounding buildings but never feels overbearing thanks to the extensive glazing.

Sustainability remained a key consideration along with budget so many materials and finishes used in the project were either re-purposed from the existing site, salvaged from nearby or chosen for their energy-efficient properties. This included mindful glass and framing choices. Large scale frameless windows were installed throughout, flooding the rooms with natural light.

Today, 23rd Street Distillery stands as a celebrated example of heritage revitalisation, where contemporary glazing and architectural detailing complement the restored distillery buildings to create a unique visitor experience within one of regional South Australia’s most iconic destinations.
